It looked like rookie catcher/outfielder Evan Gattis hurt himself last night in his last at bat, but I was hoping it would just be something minor and he would be able to catch one of the doubleheader games today. Alas, he has hit the disabled least with the infamous oblique strain and Tyler Pastornicky has been recalled.
We all know how important Gattis has been to the team this year, but he has been relegated to more of a bench role over the past few weeks and the team should be able to stomach his loss for a couple of weeks.
Pastornicky has been hitting well at triple-A, if you have been following the minor league reports (why aren't you if you haven't been?). He is batting .309/.351/.429 with four homers and seven steals in 251 plate appearances. Pastornicky is not a terrible hitter, and he has been learning a number of positions which should help him become a flexible bench option.
