Gwinnett's offense capitalized on ten hits and three IronPig errors Monday night, beating Lehigh 5-4. Tyler Pastornicky reached base three times on two hits and a walk, while Todd Cunningham and Phil Gosselin also chipped in a couple of hits of their own. Joe Leonard, Jose Yepez, and Sean Kazmar — Gwinnett's bottom three in the lineup — all collected doubles on the evening. Omar Poveda started the game and wasn't particularly impressive, allowing four runs on eight hits in six innings of work. Ryan Buchter and Wirfin Obispo combined for three innings of scoreless relief, allowing only one hit and whiffing three. Buchter and Obispo have been nothing short of stellar in the back of Gwinnett's bullpen, compiling a 1.20 ERA and 1.46 ERA in their last ten appearances, respectively. During this span, Buchter has been particularly impressive, compiling a 24:7 strikeout-to-walk ratio and .137 opponents' batting average in 15 innings pitched.

Lynchburg eked out a win over Winston-Salem, as David Rohm scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Rohm reached base four times in the contest, including a double, and helped to manufacture the winning run in the 8th, taking a walk and stealing second base before scoring on a fielding error. The 23-year-old is one of the best pure hitters in the system and is showing it of late, slashing .368/.442/.526 with two doubles and two triples apiece in his past ten games. Elmer Reyes was the only other player to have multiple hits on the evening. Starting pitcher Ryan Hinson continued his fine work since joining the team, striking out six and allowing only one run on six hits and two walks in six innings of work. The former Clemson standout was signed out of the American Association, an independent baseball league, in July and has pitched well since joining the Hillcats, compiling a 2.13 ERA with 28 strikeouts and 11 walks in 38 innings pitched. Brandon Cunniff and Robert Fish combined to pitch three innings of scoreless relief, earning the win and save, respectively. Cunniff, a 27th rounder in 2010 and former indy baller in the Frontier League, has pitched extremely well in Lynchburg's bullpen, compiling a 2.14 ERA and .211 opponents' average in 21 innings pitched.

Danville fell to Elizabethton in both games of a doubleheader on Monday, falling below .500 on the season. First, the positives: Victor Caratini had four hits on the day, including three doubles, raising his season slash line to .329/.432/.480. Shortstop Johan Camargo had four hits and reached base five times, raising his season OPS to .807. The 19-year-old infielder is extremely hot of late, slashing .463/.522/.585 in his last ten games. The negatives: neither starter was able to get out of the fifth inning, as Flores in particular struggled with command, allowing four walks in 4.1 innings of work. Bryan De La Rosa, the team's third-round pick in 2012, struck out five times between the two games, earning the golden sombrero in the second contest. On the bright side, the catcher's OPS of .649 represents a massive improvement over his .415 OPS in 2012. He is praised for his defensive tools, including an incredibly strong arm that has helped him nab 47 percent of base-stealers this season.

The Braves' GCL squad had a rough go of it against the GCL Yankees, compiling only three runs on four hits and five walks. On offense, toolsy 2012 draftee Fernelys Sanchez had the only extra-base hit of the evening, roping his sixth double of the season and his second extra-base hit in as many games. The 6'3" 210-pound switch hitter has posted a .754 OPS in his past ten games. While this represents an improvement from his season line, the main issue continues to be the rate at which he strikes out, fanning 17 times in his last 34 at-bats. Jose Morel, Ian Hagenmiller, and Omar Obregon all collected singles on the evening. Braves pitchers struggled to miss bats, allowing 12 hits and striking out only four on the contest. Daniel Cordero and Steven Schils pitched scoreless frame, while Oriel L. Caicedo, who's having a masterful season thus far, allowed two runs on four hits and two walks. Despite this subpar outing, Caicedo is still sporting a 2.16 ERA and 24:9 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his first 41.2 innings of stateside work.
