Medlen wins his 10th, Chris Johnson homers in Atlanta's 3-1 victory over the Phillies

After starting the season 1-6, Kris Medlen has battled all the way back to .500, earning his 10th win of the season while leading the Braves to a 3-1 win over the Phillies.

Medlen had a troublesome first inning, but gave up only one run in seven innings of work, and that was in the sixth when Domonic Brown singled home Chase Utley. Brown got greedy and tried to stretch the hit into a double, but Jordan Schafer threw him out at second to end the inning.

With two outs in the second, Medlen helped his cause with an RBI double off his counterpart Ethan Martin. The ball sailed over the head of the inexperienced right fielder Darin Ruf, allowing Tyler Pastornicky to score all the way from first.

In the third inning, Chris Johnson followed Justin Upton's leadoff double with a two-out home run that hit off the top of the left-field wall for what was then a 3-0 lead. The homer was Johnson's ninth of the season, and only the third at Turner Field.

Medlen retired 15 straight hitters after loading the bases in the first inning, not allowing a baserunner until Utley's sixth-inning double. He departed after issuing a leadoff walk in the eighth, his only walk of the game.

Craig Kimbrel, allowed one hit, but struck out one in earning his 37th save.

Tyler Pastornicky started at second base in place of Dan Uggla and had a single in four at-bats.
