Gwinnett Braves 4, Columbus Clippers 3

  • Phil Gosselin, 2B: 2-5, 2B, .281
  • Ernesto Mejia, 1B: 2-4, 2B, .248
  • Tyler Greene, SS: 3-4, .246
  • David Hale, SP: 7 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 2.87 ERA
Gwinnett won a wild one last night, scoring 2 in the top of the night on a crazy sequence. After shortstop Tyler Greene singled to lead off the inning (his 3rd hit of the day), Matt Pagnozzi tried to bunt him to second. Columbus's pitcher threw the ball away, and all hands were safe. Columbus then brought in a new pitcher to face Jose Constanza, who also tried to bunt. The new pitcher also threw the ball away on the bunt, and both runners scored to give Gwinnett a 4-3 lead they would close out the next half inning. David Hale turned in another strong start, giving up 3 runs over 7 innings and posting a sterling 6/0 K/BB ratio.

Huntsville Starts 0, Mississippi Braves 4
  • Jose Martinez, RF: 2-4, 2B, .293
  • Jaime Pedroza, SS: 3-3, CS(3), .290
  • Robby Hefflinger, LF: 1-4, 2B, .170
  • Tommy La Stella, 2B: 1-4, 2B, .329
  • Michael Lee, SP: 7 IP, 8 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 3.64 ERA
Mississippi shut out the Stars last night despite being outhit 9-7.  Michael Lee was worming out of trouble for most of the night, stranding all 9 men he put on base en route to 7 shutout innings. Jaime Pedroza had a perfect 3-3 night at the plate, while Jose Martinez, Tommy La Stella, and Robby Hefflinger all added doubles to the M-Braves' cause. For La Stella, it's his 6th extra base hit in the last 10 games, and his power is really coming on strong of late.

Lynchburg Hillcats 1, Carolina Mudcats 4
  • Josh Elander, LF: 3-4, .247
  • Elmer Reyes, SS: 2-4, .291
  • Jose Lugo, SP: 4 IP, 5 H, 4 R(3 ER), 1 BB, 4 K, 4.50 ERA
  • Brandon Cunniff, SP: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 1.69 ERA
Lynchburg was nearly blanked by the Mudcats last night, with only a Josh Elander RBI single saving them from a shutout. Elander and shortstop Elmer Reyes combined for 5 of the Hillcats' 7 hits, which tells you all you need to know about the offense. Jose Lugo was roughed up in 4 innings of work, allowing 4 runs(3 earned) despite solid peripherals. Brandon Cunniff continued his excellent work out of the pen, striking out 5 men in two innings of work, lowering his ERA to 1.69 in the process.

Rome Braves 5, Kannapolis Intimidators 1

  • Tyler Brosius, RP: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB 3 K, 0.00 ERA
Rome beat Kannapolis last night thanks to the bats of Tyler Tewell and Jose Peraza. Tewell blasted his 9th home run of the year, a 2-run shot, while Peraza came a homer short of the cycle. Eric Garcia chipped in a pair of hits as well, while Daniel Carroll added a double. Frank Lafrieniere was hittable last night, but managed to hold the Intimidators to 1 run. Tyler Brosous, who was just promoted from Danville, made his first Rome appearance and struck out the side in a perfect inning.

Greeneville Astros 5, Danville Braves 3
  • Cody Livesay, CF: 2-3, 2 BB, SB(1)
  • Victor Reyes, LF: 2-5, 2B, .333
