Eric O'Flaherty signs with Oakland

So long, O'Flaherty

Jared Wickerham
Eric O'Flaherty has signed a two year, $7 million contract with the Oakland Athletics.

The Braves were said to have been in on O'Flaherty and were open to brining him back, but it is good that they decided to forego dishing out $7 million over two years to a reliever. The Braves had the best bullpen in baseball without O'Flaherty last year and opted to go with Jonny Venters earlier in the offseason when they resigned him. Resigning O'Flaherty, another pitcher coming off of Tommy John surgery, would have left the Braves with a riskier and more expensive group than last season.

O'Flaherty was a great waiver claim by the front office and his performance over his Braves tenure was as remarkable as it was unexpected. Cheers, EOF. You will be missed.
