Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Justin Upton trade saga is nearing the end as Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal reports that the Braves will trade the slugging outfielder to the San Diego Padres.

Details of the trade are scarce and unsubstantiated as of yet but it appears that Atlanta's return will include at least one of the Padres' top three prospects.

ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Braves will receive Max Fried and second baseman Jace Peterson in the deal.

Jon Heyman reports Dustin Pederson, Mallex Smith are also headed to Atlanta.

The deal is official. The Braves will send Upton, along with pitching prospect Aaron Northcraft, to San Diego in exchange for LHP Max Fried, OF Mallex Smith, IF Jace Peterson, and IF Dustin Peterson. The Braves will also acquire an international bonus pool slot from San Diego in the deal.
