Braves News:

The Atlanta Braves are officially headed to Lake Buena Vista, Fla. for spring training, their equipment that is. Check out the photos of the team gear being hauled off from Turner Field on Saturday. This coming Thursday pitchers and catchers will report to Champion Stadium with the first full team workout on Feb. 19.

Third baseman Chris Johnson held down the hot corner extremely well for the Braves in their first season without Chipper Jones, as he finished second in the NL batting title race. He will take the same approach as he did last spring training in 2014.

Our writers at TC bring to a close their final prospect rankings as they name the top five prospects in the Braves organization. Many of the players on the list could be seen in the Pros this season and one may even start.

Here's who David Miller says to watch out for in the Grapefruit League for the Braves: Christian Bethancourt, Tommy La Stella, Jason Hursh, J.R. Graham, and Matt Lipka.

League Wide News:

After being a constant name brought up in trade talks this off-season Jeff Samardzija signed back with the Chicago Cubs on a one-year, $5.345 million deal Saturday afternoon. The 29-year old remains one of the hardest throwing starters in the league with his fastball clocked in at 94-98 mph on average.

Paul Maholm, known for his 58-mph curve that struck out Chase Utley, signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the L.A. Dodgers. The signing of the crafty lefty by Magic Johnson's team indicates they are not sold on their fifth starter just yet.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have yet to hold a press conference upon the signing of 37-year-old veteran starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo, as he still must undergo a physical examination. D-backs players are very happy and ready to welcome him at camp.

The Oakland Athletics extended their leadoff hitter to a two-year, $22.75 million deal this weekend and in effect has many of the teams stars wanting to remain with the A's for the foreseeable future.

ESPN's Dan Le Batard talks about the sacrifices that Cuban ballplayers, such as Jose Fernandez, go through when coming to play in America. The story will also appear in ESPN The Magazine's Feb. 17 issue.

Fox Sports baseball expert Jon Morosi reports that the Baltimore Orioles are in discussions with Chris Capuano and Joe Saunders. The club apparently was interested in A.J. Burnett as well, but believe it is a lost cause now.

The former Marlins standout pitcher has already been able to throw three bullpen sessions for the San Diego Padres after having elbow surgery last October.

Padres starting pitcher Andrew Cashner will now make $2.4 million this upcoming season after winning his arbitration hearing in court.
