In a game that showcased another strong showing by Atlanta's offense, oddly enough, it was the pitching that let the team down.
Julio Teheran just was not right from the get-go and a seesaw affair goes the Giants' way with a 10-4 win over the Braves.
Atlanta's bats pounced on Madison Bumgarner early in the first inning. After Tyler Pastornicky led off the game with a single, doubles by Freddie Freeman and Chris Johnson gave Teheran an early 2-0 lead. When Teheran took the mound in the first, though, he simply didn't have good command and Giants hitters took advantage. Gregor Blanco walked after being behind 0-2 and then Hunter Pence hit a long opposite-field home run. A single and a walk later, Brandon Crawford hit a bloop single that scored a third run. Teheran had walked only one batter in three starts previously against the Giants, but walked three in the first inning.
Teheran's fourth walk was the second to Gregor Blanco in the second inning; he then stole second, stole third and with some help from Evan Gattis, scored on a wild throw to third.
Gattis and Chris Johnson got that run back with consecutive doubles to start the fourth, and then with two outs, Andrelton Simmons lined a triple to right to tie the score, but the Giants retook the lead in the home half on Pablo Sandoval's RBI single and that chased Teheran from the game.
The Giants lead increased in the fifth on back-to-back two-out hits by Blanco and Pence following Crawford's leadoff double. Michael Morse contributed a home run in the sixth.
B.J. Upton has struck out a lot in this series and was unhappy with many of the strike calls, but his last one set him off. In the sixth inning, Upton voiced his frustration and was immediately ejected.
Brandon Crawford homered in the eighth.
