Gwinnett Braves 0, Louisville Bats 1
- Tyler Pastornicky, 2B: 2-4, SB(2), .317
- Mark Hamilton, 1B: 2-4, .254
- Christian Bethancourt, C: 2-4, .274
- Joey Terdoslavich, LF: 1-4, .238
- Cody Martin, SP: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 7 K, 3.42 ERA
Despite outhitting the Bats 10 to 6, Gwinnett couldn't get anything going on offense and lost 1-0. The loss spoiled an impressive start from Cody Martin, who tossed 6 innings of one run ball while striking out seven. On offense, Tyler Pastornicky, Mark Hamilton, and Christian Bethancourt each notched multi-hit games. Bethancourt is hitting over .300 since the beginning of May, a remarkable turnaround after his slow start.
Mississippi Braves 6, Tennessee Smokies 4
- Matt Kennelly, C: 3-5, 2B(5), SB(1), .315
- Kyle Kubitza, 3B: 2-4, 2B(16), 3B(3), BB, .291
- Myke Jones, CF: 2-4, OF Assist, .287
- Mitch Atkins, SP: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 2.25 ERA
The M-Braves knocked off the Smokies last night, thanks in part to banner offensive days from Matt Kennelly and Kyle Kubitza. Kennelly smacked 3 hits, including his 5th double of the year, and also added his first stolen base. Kubitza showed off his power and patience combination by banging out a double and a triple, as well as drawing a walk. Myke Jones also added a pair of hits and threw out a runner at home. Mitch Atkins had a solid - if unspectacular - start, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits across 5 innings.
Lynchburg Hillcats 6, Salem Red Sox 3
- Jose Peraza, 2B: 2-5, 2B(13), 2 SB(34,35), .342
- Kyle Wren, CF: 3-4, BB, 2 SB(30,31), .297
- Kevin Ahrens, 3B: 3-5, .260
- Greg Ross, SP: 6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K, 3.50
We've about reached the point where I'm more surprised when Jose Peraza and Kyle Wren aren't tearing it up than when they are. Lynchburg's speedy top-of-the-order duo each swiped two bases last night and scored a pair of runs. Peraza went 2-5 with a double, while Wren reached 4 times on 3 singles and a walk. Kevin Ahrens was the only other Hillcat to notch a multi-hit game, but that was enough for Greg Ross. Lynchburg's All-Star pitcher allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 6.1 innings. He walked 3 and stuck out 7 men, as well.
Rome Braves 4, Asheville Tourists 2
- Connor Oliver, CF: 3-5, CS(3), .262
- Victor Caratini, C: 1-3, HR(3), 2 RBI, BB, .288
- Blake Brown, LF: 2-4, HR(3), .245
- Jacob Schrader, 1B: 2-4, 2B(10), .283
- Daniel Watts, SP: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K, 3.92 ERA
Rome beat the Tourists last night thanks to a pair of homers from Victor Caratini and Blake Brown, as well as a gem from starter Daniel Watts. Watts only allowed 1 run on 3 hits across 7 innings while punching out 8 men. Caratini and Brown each continued their hot hitting of late by crushing their third home runs. The pair accounted for 3 of Rome's 4 runs, and that would be all Watts would need to notch his second win of the year.
