Gwinnett Braves 4, Indianapolis Indians 9
- Phil Gosselin, LF: 2-4, .320
- Brandon Boggs, CF: 1-3, HR(4), 2 RBI, BB, .239
- Mark Hamilton, 1B: 1-2, HR(2), .257
- Joe Leonard, 3B: 1-3, 2B(1), RBI, BB, .265
- Hector Daniel Rodriguez, 1.2 IP, 10 H, 8 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 4.83 ERA
- Ian Thomas, RP: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 3.95 ERA
Yeouch. Hector Daniel Rodriguez was absolutely blasted by the Indy Indians last night, allowing 8 runs on 10 hits while only recording 5 outs. Not exactly a recipie for success. On the bright side, Ian Thomas was excellent in relief of Rodriguez, tossing 3.1 innings of shutout ball with 5 strikeouts. Gwinnett's offense smacked a pair of homers - one by Brandon Boggs and one by Mark Hamilton - to account for 3 of their 4 runs. The other came on an RBI double from Joe Leonard, his first two-bagger with Gwinnett.
Mississippi Braves 6, Tennessee Smokies 7 (F/11)
- Cedric Hunter, LF: 2-5, 2B(18), SB(3), .306
- Elmer Reyes, SS: 1-5, 2B(16), .317
- Kyle Kubitza, 3B: 1-4, .290
- Matt Kennelly, C: 2-5, .318
- Aaron Northcraft, SP: 5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K, 2.87 ERA
Aaron Northcraft's solid start was ruined by the Mississippi bullpen last night, as the usually-solid Brandon Cunniff gave up 4 runs in the 9th inning to blow the save. Mississippi would go on to lose in the 11th. Cedric Hunter led the way for Mississippi's offense, going 2 for 5 with his 18th double and third steal of the year. Elmer Reyes added a double as well, his 16th. Catcher Matt Kennelly continued his hot hitting of late, notching another multi-hit game. A familiar face came out of the Tennessee bullpen as well: Arodys Vizcaino hurled a perfect 9th inning for the Smokies, striking out a pair.
Lynchburg Hillcats 5, Salem Red Sox 6
- Eric Garcia, 2B: 3-4, 2B(6), 2 BB, SB(4), .279
- Kevin Ahrens, 3B: 1-2, 2 BB, .262
- Anthony Nunez, C: 1-2, 2 BB, .175
- Jarrett Miller, SP: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K, 4.46 ERA
Like Mississippi, Lynchburg was victimized by their bullpen. The Hillcats relievers gave up 4 runs over the last 3 innings to give control of the game to the Red Sox. That spoiled a quality start from Jarrett Miller, who allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings pitched. On offense, it was the Eric Garcia show. Lynchburg's backup second baseman filled in for Jose Peraza admirably, reaching base a whopping *five* times and stealing his 4th bag of the year. Kevin Ahrens and backup catcher Anthony Nunez also took advantage of a pair of walks to reach base three times apiece as well.
Rome Braves 3, Asheville Tourists 5
- Connor Oliver, CF: 2-4, BB, .267
- Jacob Schrader, 1B: 3-5, 2B(11), .291
- Victor Reyes, RF: 1-4, 2B(10), .284
- Blake Brown, DH: 1-3, BB, .246
- Yean Carlos Gil, SP: 6 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 8 K, 3.25 ERA
Rome made it 4 for 4 in minor league teams losing yesterday, as they dropped to the Tourists 5 to 3. Yean Carlos Gil was too hittable, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits, and that's a shame, because he posted a very impressive 8:1 K:BB ratio over those 6 innings. Jacob Schrader led the offense with 3 hits, including his 11th double of the year. Victor Reyes posted a double as well, while Blake Brown reached base two times as well.
