Tim Hudson says Braves slapped him in the face with contract offer

Tim Hudson, a very rich baseball player who was paid $89 million by the Braves over the last decade, is mad the club didn't offer him more money last winter.

In this story from USA Today, Hudson says the Braves slapped him in the face with their first contract offer:

"It was made pretty clear to me the Braves didn't want me back,'' Hudson, 38, tells USA TODAY Sports, noting the Braves' initial offer was so low, he didn't even bother to counter.

"After what I had done for them, it was kind of a slap in the face.''

Hudson, who will soon be 39 years old, was coming off a gruesome ankle injury at the time and had been pretty average on the mound over the last couple seasons. Seeing as the Braves had a bunch of younger, cheaper and healthier (at the time) options, it only made sense for Frank Wren to look elsewhere during the offseason.

I'm not really going to give too much of my #hottake sports opinion on this one, but give me a break. Hudson was paid very handsomely during his time in Atlanta and it only made sense for the two sides to split up. That's not a slap in the face -- it's a business decision for a team that doesn't exactly have a lot of money laying around.

Huddy landed a two-year deal with the Giants worth $23 million and is off to a terrific start in 2014. The Braves' starting rotation has been excellent so far, and the money they saved by letting Hudson walk allowed the front office to extend some of the franchise's young stars. It was a win-win situation.
