Despite a late rally in the bottom of the twelfth inning in which Gwinnett nearly forced another extra frame, the G-Braves couldn't overcome a three-run inning by the Bats, losing 6-5. Yunesky Maya started for the G-Braves, and was solid, giving up three runs in nearly seven innings' worth of work, striking out five and walking three. Newly-signed reliever Carlos Fisher, who spent parts of three seasons in Cincinnati's Major League bullpen from 2009 to 2011, had an impressive debut, striking out a pair of hitters in 1.1 innings. Ultimately, Jorge Reyes surrendered three runs to the Bats in extras that ended up being the difference. Interestingly enough, catcher Jose Yepez picked up the final out in relief. Although Phil Gosselin wasn't even in the lineup to begin the day, he had the most standout day offensively for Gwinnett, picking up three hits in three tries, driving in a run. Steven Lerud reached base in four of his five plate appearances, taking three walks. Joey Terdoslavich and Tyler Pastornicky were both held hitless on the day. Gwinnett and Gus Schlosser will take on Jair Jurrjens and the Bats this afternoon.

The M-Braves joined Gwinnett in losing in extras on Sunday, dropping a 9-7 contest to Jackson in 11 innings. It was a minor miracle that the game even went to extras, as Mississippi trailed 7-0 after six innings, but plated four runs in the third and three in the ninth on a bases-clearing Kyle Kubitza double to tie the game. J.R. Graham had yet another poor outing for Mississippi yesterday, ceding six runs in 4.2 innings of work to put the team in a hole. Ryan Kelly had a nice relief outing with the exception of a solo home run he gave up, and Brandon Cunniff worked a perfect pair of innings, striking out three. José Peraza continues to hit, as he picked up four hits in six tries yesterday, including his first double since being called up to AA.

However, Peraza did not have a stellar day on the basepaths, as he was caught stealing and picked off. Kyle Kubitza, in addition to his aforementioned triple, reached via a hit by pitch and stole his 13th base of the season (he's only been caught once). I'm sorry for doubting you and labeling my 2014 bust candidate, Kyle. Keep proving me wrong. Jackson and Mississippi will go at it once again this evening, with Sid Bream and Chris Chambliss scheduled to make appearances at Trustmark Park. Sounds like fun.

Lynchburg outran the Dash en route to a 8-3 victory on Sunday afternoon. Former Brewer farmhand Cody Scarpetta made his second start for the Hillcats after recovering from Tommy John Surgery and did a fine job, pitching seven innings and giving up only one earned run, striking out five. Nate Hyatt took care of the two final frames, allowing only a measly single and striking out four hitters. Will Skinner had a huge afternoon offensively for Lynchburg, doubling twice and smacking a solo home run. That'll help the 'ol wRC+. José Martinez also had a productive offensive day, picking up three hits including a pair of doubles. The only Lynchburg starter not to record a base hit was third baseman Kevin Ahrens, who walked in his lone plate appearance of the afternoon, and was lifted for an unknown reason in the fifth inning. Jarrett Miller will go for the 'Cats this evening against the Dash once again.

Rome dropped a close contest to the Crawdads yesterday, falling a run short in a 4-3 defeat. Daniel Watts got the start for Rome yesterday and did a fine job, keeping the Crawdads off of the board in five innings of five-hit work. He only allowed one free pass, and struck out five. The Crawdads scored all four of their runs in the top of the eighth against Rome reliever Pete Pérez, who had a rough outing. Rome led 1-0 until the fateful eighth inning on the strength of a Jacob Schrader home run off of Hickory starter Cole Wiper. Schrader had a pair of hits on the day, but also committed an error in the field and was caught stealing. 31st round pick Sal Giardina spelled Victor Caratini at catcher on Sunday afternoon and had a nice day at the plate, picking up a trio of singles. Connor Lien had a prototypical Lien day, striking out twice and doubling. Rome will now travel east to Augusta to begin a series with the GreenJackets beginning this evening.

Danville's offense couldn't overcome shoddy pitching in their series opener in Johnson City yesterday, as they fell 10-8 to the Cardinals in a high-scoring affair. Ian Stiffler did a disservice to people named Ian, giving up six runs in three innings of work in his season debut. He had major control issues, walking six batters. Matt Kimbrel, whose brother is somewhat famous, was the only Braves pitcher not to have a rough outing, pitching two clean frames. Kyle Kinman gave up three runs in two innings of works, and Félix Marte surrendered one on three hits in a single frame. Jordan Edgerton, the Braves' 9th round selection out of UNC-Pembroke in this month's draft, had a big day, picking up three hits including his first professional homer. Mike Dodig also had a standout day, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances. Danville and Johnson City will play again this evening. I'd tell you who'll be starting on the mound for Danville, but they get off on withholding, just like Lucille Bluth. Look at them, getting off.

The Braves' complex-level rookie affiliate was off yesterday. They'll return to action this afternoon, taking on the GCL Yankees 2 at noon.
