Aaron Northcraft made his second start with AAA Gwinnett and it was a clunker. Northcraft allowed 6 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks, while failing to make it out of the third inning. Yuck. Chalk it up as a rough start, and move on. Edward Salcedo made his first start since going down to the GCL to get reps in the outfield...and promptly committed an error. He did go 1-4 with a double at the plate, at least. Todd Cunningham lashed his 4th homer of the year, adding another item to his list of "Reasons I deserve a roster spot more than Jordan Schafer". Phil Gosselin roped his 20th double of the year. He is now hitting .330 on the year and, more importantly, is not named Dan Uggla.

The M-Braves were the second Braves' affiliate to get a 9-spot hung on them yesterday as they lost 9-7 to the Stars. Kyle Wren made his first start with Mississippi last night after being promoted on Saturday, and went 1-5. Jose Peraza likewise went 1-5. Myke Jones moved to right with the addition of Wren, drew two walks, and swiped two bases. Kyle Kubitza continued being a one-man OPS wrecking crew, tripling and walking on the evening. He also swiped his 15th base of the year. Cedric Hunter had a nice day as well, going 3-5 with a homer. On the mound, Jason Hursh turned in another mediocre (if we're being generous) start, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits in 5.1 innings, while posting a 2/2 BB/K ratio.

The Hillcats offense threw Blake Brown a welcoming party last night, scoring 10 runs in the outfielder's High-A debut. Brown had himself a nice first day, going 2-5 with a double and a steal. Kevin Ahrens and Justin Bloxom each had 3-hit games, with Ahrens roping a pair of doubles and drawing a walk as well. Jose Martinez also reached base 3 times, singling and walking twice in 5 plate appearances. Jarrett Miller got the start on the mound for Lynchburg and was pretty good, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits 5.2 innings of work. He also posted a tidy 5/1 K/BB ratio as well.

In the latest episode of "That's so Rome", the R-Braves scored 12 runs and still managed to lose. Keith Curcio made his debut after being promoted from Danville, and was immediately slotted in at the top of the order, where he went 3-5. Victor Reyes reached base twice more, the latest sign that he's beginning to figure things out. Gerald Chin put together a two-hit game with his first Rome double since being promoted two days ago. Colby Holmes made his second start for Lynchburg (he had previously pitched out of the pen) and was not good, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits in 3.1 innings. The good news was he didn't walk anyone. The bad news? He didn't strike out anyone, either.

The imposing offensive machine that is the Danville Braves kept rolling right along yesterday, hanging 11 runs on the Bluefield Blue Jays. Sean Godrey smacked a pair of doubles, while Jordan Edgerton doubled and walked in two plate appearances before being lifted (presumably because Danville was so far ahead). Bryan De La Rosa had an unusually nice night at the plate as well, smacking a pair of doubles. Alec Grosser started and starred for Danville yesterday, tossing a 6-inning beauty. Grosser only allowed a run on 4 hits, while striking out 7 men. In a season where few (if any) Braves pitching prospects have really distinguished themselves, Grosser's 19 strikeouts (against only 5 walks) in 13.2 innings is certainly turning heads. Our own Ian Morris saw Grosser's previous start and came away impressed; look for a more in-depth read from Ian later on. One other performance of note: Max Povse, Atlanta's 3rd round pick from this year's draft, debuted with a perfect inning behind Grosser.
