Gwinnett salvaged a win in their final game of a four-game set against Columbus, triumphing 3-2. Gus Schlosser took the mound for the G-Braves and was mildly effective in his start, going five and two-thirds innings on the bump, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks, striking out two. Schlosser didn't miss many Clipper bats, but induced ground balls and limited damage. Schlosser did allow a home run to Clippers third baseman Giovanny Urshela, but it was of the solo variety. Atahualpa Severino, Pedro Beato, and Juan Jaime combined to work 3.1 innigs of scoreless relief out of the bullpen, with Jaime picking up the save despite a dicey ninth inning. The G-Braves' offense took on a familiar foe for Braves fans in right-hander Kyle Davies, and pushed across three runs against the former Brave before Davies was lifted after six innings of work. Phil Gosselin led the charge for Gwinnett offensively last night, picking up three hits, including a double. Joey Terdoslavich also had a pair of singles in the game, including the game-winning two-run single that put the Braves ahead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Joe Leonard made his 2014 AAA debut after being recalled from Mississippi, and picked up a hit. Leonard was not the only new addition to Gwinnett's roster, as they signed former Tennessee Vol and Astro farmhand Andy Simunic to fill a roster spot opened by Todd Cunningham's departure to the DL.

The M-Braves were the only team in the organization to lose last night, dropping a close one to the Lookouts, 5-4. Chattanooga jumped on M-Braves starter Ryan Weber, scoring three runs on five hits in the top of the first frame. Weber had a rather forgettable evening, giving up five more hits for a total of ten on the evening. He didn't walk anyone, but he clearly wasn't fooling the Lookout hitters. Terry Doyle and Chasen Shreve combined to work five scoreless innings in relief, with the former picking up three innings of work, striking out one, and the latter picking up the final two frames, also with one strikeout, but the damage was already done. Kyle Kubitza continued his run of good play as of late, reaching base twice in four plate appearances. Kubitza also stole his eleventh base of the season. Myke Jones and David Rohm each chipped in with a double in the game, and Braeden Schlehuber had a two-hit contest. Tomorrow night's game at Trustmark Park between the same two teams features a pretty intriguing pitching matchup, as J.R. Graham takes on Chris Reed as the Braves and Lookouts play once again.

The Hillcats took advantage of a fantastic start by Wes Parsons and nipped the Red Sox by a run in the first game of their series against Salem. Parsons was dynamite yesterday evening, going seven strong innings of three-hit ball, allowing only a single unearned run and walking one batter while striking out eight. With the exception of the second inning, in which Parsons allowed two singles and a run (the run was unearned because of a Joseph Odom throwing error on a steal attempt), and the seventh inning, in which Parsons hit the leadoff batter with a pitch, Parsons worked 1-2-3 innings in the other five innings of the contest. Parsons did a quality job of inducing ground balls, as per usual, and missing bats yesterday. Parsons is currently sporting a 62:13 K:BB ratio in 60.2 innings of work this season, and continues to become more and more intriguing as a prospect. Speaking of intriguing prospects, José Peraza continued his hot hitting with a solo home run in yesterday's ballgame, his first round-tripper of the season. Peraza's homer accounted for the team's only run until the bottom of the ninth inning, when first baseman Edison Sánchez brought home David Nick with an RBI single for a walk-off win. Lucas Sims will take the mound for Lynchburg tomorrow night against the Red Sox.

Rome defeated Greenville last night 6-1 on the strength of a strong pitching performance by starter Tyler Brosius. Brosius worked six no-hit innings in the game (hey, BABIP was on his side!), despite walking four hitters and striking out only one. Sometimes, luck goes your way, and this certainly was the case for Brosius last night. A.J. Holland and Richie Tate combined to work the final three innings of the game without ceding a run. The only run on the day for the Drive came across as a result of an errant throw by Johan Camargo on a possible double play. Camargo, however, did have a two-hit night at the plate, as well as a stolen base and an RBI. Connor Oliver also had a two-hit game, smacking his eighth double of the campaign. Victor Caratini threw out a runner and stole his first base of the season last night. This was just an all-around strange game, but hey, Rome won. The Drive and the R-Braves will play a doubleheader tomorrow evening as a result of Thursday's rainout.
