Mobile BayBears 7, Mississippi Braves 6 (F/10)

  • Jose Peraza 2B: 3-6, SB (8), CS (6)
  • Kyle Wren CF: 0-3, 2BB, R, SB (5,6), CS (2)
  • Kyle Kubitza 3B: 1-2, 2B (25), 2BB, 2R, HBP

  • Mitch Atkins: 7IP, 7H, 6ER, 2BB, 2K
  • Chasen Schreve IP, 2H, ER, BB, K

The game went to extras, but Mississippi eventually fell, 7-6. Jose Peraza made it back from his Futures Game debut, going 3-6 in the leadoff spot. Since being bumped up to double-A, Peraza has actually had a very low success rate on the bases (yes, SSS). After last night, he is now 8-14, getting picked off once as well. Kyle Kubitza continued his monster season, reaching base four more times including his 25th double and is now sniffing a .900 OPS. Mitch Atkins gave up six runs over seven innings in a less than stellar start. Chasen Schreve, who has had an excellent season, gave up a run in the 10th and failed to record two strikeouts in an appearance for the first time in a month.

Will Skinner continued to wear out the lines and gaps, collecting his 29th double of the season, putting him back into a tie for first in the Carolina League. He also coaxed two walks, making a big jump in his overall offensive performance during his second tour of the league. Jose Martinez had the only other XBH, a triple off reliever Justin Sprenger.

Danville and Elizabethton coasted through Monday's game in just over two hours, with Danville coming out on top, 4-2. The pitching was on point, striking out 11 batters on the day. Matt Sims went two perfect innings in relief, striking out three. Third baseman Omar Obregon got the start at short and collected three hits, now totaling 15 in his first 45 at-bats. The 20-year old switch-hitter was originally signed out of Nicaragua. Center fielder Joseph Daris also created havoc on offense, reaching on a single, then showed off his speed by stealing both second and third.

GCL Braves 8, GCL Blue Jays 7

  • Ozhaino Albies SS: 1-3, BB, 2R, SB (7)
  • Matt Lipka CF: 1-4, BB, 2R
  • Luke Dykstra 2B: 2-4, 2B (5)

It was a sloppy one Monday, as both teams combined to commit eight errors. The Braves used a combination of six pitchers to scrap out a 8-7 win. Matt Lipka again got the start in his return from injury, batting second, reaching twice. Luke Dykstra continued his assault on the GCL, ripping his fifth double, raising his average to .386. Braxton Davidson has started slow since being drafted in the first round last month, but doubled and walked, playing left field. 17-year-old Ozhaino Albies continued to show off his speed at the top of the order, reaching twice and stealing two bases. The shortstop is an exciting young player who was signed out of Curacao last July.
