David Price to Tigers in 3-team deal

Price has finally been dealt. Detroit sent minor-league infielder Willy Adames to the Rays, and acquired Nick Franklin and Drew Smyly from Seattle. Price wasn't happy to leave Tampa, and after the trade went down, FOX affiliates in both cities took shots at each other over Twitter.

Boston unloads pitching for offense: Lackey to Cards, Lester to Oakland

In return for Lackey, Red Sox receive first baseman Allen Craig and pitcher Joe Kelly; from Oakland, they get Yoenis Cespedes. That last one's a doozy for me; I literally said "wow" when I saw that. The Lester trade means no open rotation spot for Tommy Milone, so he was shipped to Minnesota.

Marlins get Jarred Cosart from Astros

Miami's trying to stay in the playoff hunt, so they picked up some pitching help, acquiring right-hander Jarred Cosart and minor-leaguers Enrique Hernandez and Austin Wates from the Astros for Jake Marisnick, Colin Moran, Francis Martes and a 2015 competitive balance Draft pick.

Matt Cain likely to have season-ending surgery

He saw Dr. Andrews and two other doctors this week, and all said the bone chips in his right elbow need to be removed. Cain's had a rough couple of years since signing an eight-year extension in 2012.

Cliff Lee re-injures elbow

It was his third start since returning from the DL July 21, the same injury that held him out of most of the first half of the season striking yet again. Lee's 2014 season is most likely done.
