Braves rumors: Atlanta considering Bartolo Colon, short term starter

New, comments

The Atlanta Braves are looking to add a short term piece to their starting rotation.

Lost in the hoopla of the Shelby Miller trade was that the move left a sizeable hole in the Braves' rotation for next season. Reports indicate that Atlanta is looking for a short-term veteran option and has discussed former Mets starter Bartolo Colon.

Atlanta wants a short term option that won't block some of the young starters that are currently coming through the pipeline. Colon was a workhorse for the Mets last season logging 194 innings at 42 years of age. He surrendered 217 hits but was able to minimize a lot of the damage and finished with a 14-13 record to go along with a 3.84 ERA.

The Mets are also reportedly interested in bringing back Colon after dealing Jon Niese to the Pirates. If not Colon then expect Atlanta to add another experienced starter who can bridge the gap until some of their pitching prospects are ready perhaps around midseason.
