Braves trade former top prospect Salcedo for minor league pitcher

The Atlanta Braves traded former top prospect Edward Salcedo to the Pittsburgh Pirates for minor league pitcher Bryton Trepagnier. Salcedo was a highly touted prospect five years ago when the team gave him $1.6 million signing bonus. However, Salcedo has struggled to realize his potential after hitting just .230 in five minor league seasons.

Trepagnier is 23 and compiled a 2.53 ERA while pitching for high-A Bradenton in the Florida State League. In 123 minor league appearances, Trepagnier is 15-12 with a 4.19 ERA.

Johnson focused on simplifying approach at plate

Braves third baseman Chris Johnson is planning on simplifying his approach at the plate to try and get back to the level he enjoyed during the 2013 season.

"I think I just tried to do too much [last year]," Johnson said. "I think I was really worried about forcing my numbers back to where they were in 2013. Right now, I'm just focused on the process. I'm focused on getting my swing right, getting my path right and working on this new approach that [Braves hitting coach Kevin] Seitzer has us working on right now."
