If you've been watching the past few Braves games, then you can agree with me when I say that the pitching is in a bit of trouble right now. However, there may be a little bit of help coming from the farm soon, and if it happens then it'll be coming in the form of Mike Foltynewicz.
As I type this, Trevor Cahill is currently struggling pitching in relief of Alex Wood. Cahill's been a starter for the early part of this season, so the fact that he's doing relief work right now obviously means that he won't be making his scheduled start on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds. 92.9 The Game's Grant McAuley noticed this, and had this to report over on Twitter:
Cahill was slated to start Friday's game vs #Reds. Distinct possibility that turn goes to Mike Foltynewicz (scheduled to start for Gwinnett)

Over four starts with the G-Braves, Folty's compiled a 2.08 ERA, a 2.48 FIP, and a gaudy K/9 of 12.46. In his last start against the Durham Bulls, he went five innings, walked three batters, struck out nine, and gave up two runs. That was just the latest in a string of strong starts, and it seems like Folty's done a good job of trying to fix the control issues that cost him his initial ticket to the big leagues back in Spring Training.
This hasn't gone unnoticed, and it appears that the Major League squad just might be giving him a call-up pretty soon. This is definitely something to keep an eye on, especially as we get closer to Friday's game against the Reds.
