The Atlanta Braves will have another left handed option available in their bullpen come Monday with the return of reliever Andrew McKirahan from suspension. McKirahan is currently on a rehab assignment with Gwinnett and is expected to be activated on Monday.
McKirahan was handed an 80-game suspension by Major League Baseball for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs in April. He made just three appearances with the Braves before being suspended allowing two runs and three hits in 4 1/3 innings. Atlanta acquired McKirahan through the Rule 5 draft and therefore must keep him on their active roster or offer him back to the Cubs for $25,000.
He put up a good performance in spring training and looked like he could play a big part in Atlanta's bullpen before being suspended. His presence should lighten the load somewhat on Luis Avilan who has already appeared in 46 games this season. The Braves also have left hander Ross Detwiler who they signed earlier this week.
