The Atlanta Braves announced Tuesday afternoon that left-handed pitcher Manny Banuelos has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with left elbow inflammation.

Banuelos, 24, is 1-2 on the season through four starts, with a 2.49 ERA. In a corresponding move, the Braves have called up right-handed pitcher David Carpenter from Triple-A Gwinnett. With Gwinnett this season, the 27-year-old has a 2-0 record with a 0.71 ERA out of the bullpen.

What may help lessen the blow of losing Banuelos is the fact that right-handed pitcher Williams Perez may be getting closer to making his return to Atlanta. With Gwinnett on Sunday, the 24-year-old pitched 5.2 innings, with just one hit and five strikeouts. With the Braves in 2015, Perez has a 2.88 ERA in 50 innings pitched (eight starts).
