The Atlanta Braves got a bit of good news on Wednesday when an MRI exam revealed a bone spur on his left elbow. Banuelos was placed on the disabled list earlier this week and the team has not released a timetable for when he might resume throwing.
"We'll shut him down and let that thing calm down a bit before we move forward," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
Given Banuelos' recent history with Tommy John surgery, there was naturally a bit of concern that it was a more serious injury. Banuelos is nearing an innings limit that was placed on him before the season. He threw 104 innings in the minors for Gwinnett and has throw 21 2/3 innings since his call up to Atlanta. MIke Foltynewicz will make Wednesday's start in place of Banuelos.
No injury is a good thing, but at this point this looks like just a minor setback for the Braves and Banuelos.
