The Braves have recalled Mike Foltynewicz from Gwinnett to serve as an extra bullpen arm, according to MLB's Mark Bowman. Joey Terdoslavich, who had seldom played since being recalled a few weeks ago, was optioned to Triple-A to make room on the roster.
As he came up through the Astros' farm system, some scouts liked Foltynewicz as a late-inning reliever. He's seen mixed results in limited big league starts, and the Braves made the decision about a month ago that he needed more seasoning in the minors.
It's unclear if the club plans to make Folty a permanent reliever or if this is a temporary move to provide some relief for Jim Johnson, Luis Avilan, David Aardsma and others.
Fredi said he is receptive to the possibility of keeping Folty in the pen after the All-Star break.

Given all the pitching depth in the system, I'm not against converting Foltynewicz into a reliever for this season. His fastball-curve combo would make for a tough 7th or 8th inning. His upside is as a starter, though, and I'm hoping Atlanta gives him more time in the minors to work out some kinks.
