Padres rookie Colin Rea held the Braves to five hits and two runs as the Braves dropped their eighth straight at Petco Park, losing 5-3.

The Padres jumped on Williams Perez with three runs in the second. An infield single by Derek Norris with one out scored the first run of the inning. Following a wild pitch, Will Venable brought home two more with a single to right.

Cameron Maybin homered in the fourth to put the Braves on the board, but then Matt Kemp hit one of his own in the fifth. In the sixth, Maybin stayed hot with his second hit of the game and then scored one out later on A.J. Pierzynski's single, cutting the Padres lead to two and chasing Colin Rea from the game.

Yonder Alonso homered in the eighth off Peter Moylan.

Atlanta's defense kept the Braves close throughout the game. A line drive double play ended a potential scoring threat in the third. In the sixth, Michael Bourn doubled off Jedd Gyorko at first on a fly ball to left. In total, the Braves turned four double plays.

The Braves rallied for one run in the ninth against Craig Kimbrel, but it wasn't enough to stop Atlanta's losing streak at Petco from reaching eight games.
