Braves get Melvin'd in San Diego, lose to Padres 9-0

Remember when Bill and Ted gave a "melvin" wedgie to the Grim Reaper? That's what this game felt like.

Melvin Upton homered twice and had five RBI as the Braves continue to flounder at Petco Park, dropping their ninth straight in San Diego with a 9-0 loss.

The Padres jumped on the Braves in the third inning on Matt Kemp's sacrifice fly, and added another run in the fourth on Melvin Upton's single after the Braves wasted a bases-loaded-no-out opportunity in the top of the inning.

That was all the damage the Padres managed against Matt Wisler in five innings, but the Braves could do nothing against James Shields, managing five hits and two walks, but no runs. The Padres would break the game open in the sixth against Atlanta's relief corps. Melvin Upton hit a two-run homer off David Aardsma and Yangervis Solarte would hit a three-run shot off Ross Detwiler, who didn't retire any of the five batters he faced.

Melvin would add another two-run homer in the seventh.

The Braves offense left nine on base.
