Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 8/19 - Dustin Peterson hits a grand slam

The Carolina offense had a huge night on Wednesday highlighted by a Dustin Peterson grand slam and Keith Curcio stealing home.

A 4-1 lead heading into the 7th inning wasn't enough for the Mississippi Braves on Wednesday. Mauricio Cabrera continued his dreadful season allowing 3 runs in 0.2 innings to take the loss. John Gant had another great outing on the mound allowing just 1 unearned run in 5.2 innings with 6 strikeouts. Steve Rodriguez completely paced the offense with 4 RBI's and 2 hits.

The Carolina offense had it going in this one with 13 runs scored on 16 hits. The offense got the run scoring started with Keith Curcio successfully stealing home in the first inning as Jacob Schrader struck out. Starting the game in left field, Dustin Peterson led the offense with 3 hits including a grand slam in the 2nd inning for his 8th home run of the season. Yean Carlos Gil received the win despite a very poor performance allowing 5 runs on 9 hits and 4 walks in 5.2 innings pitched.

There wasn't much going on for Rome on Wednesday. The team had just 7 hits with Stephen Gaylor's RBI single in the 3rd inning bring across the only run for the Braves. Hector Olivera had his first hit with the team going 1-3 in the game.

The GCL Braves brought across 3 runs in the first inning which proved to be just enough for the victory on Wednesday. The Braves were scoreless after those runs, but a strong performance by the pitching staff led by starter Jaret Hellinger held the Phillies to just 2 runs.
