Braves vs Marlins series preview

The Atlanta Braves look to get back on track as they open a four-game set against the Miami Marlins at Turner Field.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Braves continue to limp along in the second half of the season and begin a four-game set against the Miami Marlins Thursday night at Turner Field.

The Braves have lost eight of their last 10 and are 6-13 since the All-Star Break. A nine run outburst on Monday helped Atlanta avoid a sweep to the Giants. Despite that breakout, their offense has been largely anemic of late. The Braves have scored 51 runs in the 19 games since the break with just 18 coming in their 13 losses.

Atlanta will look to get back some momentum against a Marlins team that has also been scuffling of late without the injured Giancarlo Stanton. Miami has lost three straight and eight of their last 10 games.

Matt Wisler will get the call for the Braves on Thursday in the series opener and will be looking to bounce back from a rough start last time out. Wisler was battered for eight hits and seven runs in just 4 2/3 innings in a 12-2 loss to the Phillies on Saturday.

The marquee matchup of the weekend will come on Friday when Julio Teheran squares off against Marlins ace Jose Fernandez. Teheran has gone 5-1 at Turner Field with a 2.37 ERA in 10 starts. Fernandez picked up right where he left off in his return from Tommy John surgery and has been dominant posting a 2.13 ERA to go along with 47 strikeouts in 38 innings.
