Recently added Cuban slugger leads Braves to win over Marlins

30-year-old Cubans for everyone.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Braves won one of the wilder games of the season on Thursday night as they pulled out a 9-8 victory over the Marlins at Turner Field.

Miami took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Matt Wisler struggled with command, though the Braves tied it up on a Nick Markakis sacrifice fly and Cameron Maybin RBI-single. Atlanta took a 5-2 lead in the following inning as Markakis doubled in two and Jace Peterson singled in another.

In the fifth, the Marlins tied it up at 5-5. The Braves battled right back in the fifth; a Joey Terdoslavich triple put Atlanta up 6-5, setting the stage for 30-year-old Cuban sensation Adonis Garcia. Garcia cranked a two-run homer to left to push the lead to 8-5.

The Marlins would tie things up once again in the eighth at 8-8. With two outs and Daniel Castro on third, Eury Perez lined a single to left to push ahead the game-winning run.

Arodys Vizcaino notched his first career save in the 9th.

Wisler was not sharp, and this marks back-to-back bad starts for the young righty. He surrendered five runs, nine hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings. His ERA is up to 4.85 on the season.
