There is no doubt that Mike Foltynewicz has great stuff on the mound. What has been at issue is his command as well as his health. Unfortunately, the latter popped up as Foltynewicz was gearing up to make his last few appearances of the year

Blood clots can be really scary and it sounds like the the Braves did the right thing by getting him to the emergency room immediately. While the cause of the clots is so far unknown (injury, illness, genetics, etc. are all possible causes), it seems to be a forgone conclusion now that we won't see Folty pitch again this year with this setback.
That could be the least the Braves concerns with Folty though. Depending on the severity and cause of the clots, this particular setback could keep Foltynewicz out for quite a while. All we really know about the cause is that its NOT in all likelihood the pneumonia that has sidelined him of late. We will keep you posted as this story develops, but thus far this is not good news at all for one of the Braves' highest ceiling prospects.
Foltynewicz has posted a record of 4-6 with a 5.71 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, and 77 strikeouts to go along with 29 walks. Folty was one of the centerpieces in the package that sent Evan Gattis to Houston in January.
