Shelby Miller's winless streak is at 23 starts with a 4-0 loss by the Braves to the Mets at Citi Field.
Miller was a double play away from escaping a bases loaded mess in the first. He got the double play, but in an unconventional way that cost him a run. Daniel Castro dropped his attempted throw to first, but caught Daniel Murphy in a rundown between second and third. Curtis Granderson, who was at third, scored on the unfortunate mishap.
Michael Conforto homered in the second off Miller who AGAIN had no run support in six innings. Atlanta's offense did nothing against Jon Niese despite loading the bases in the third inning. They had five hits overall.
Andrew McKirahan entered in the seventh and promptly allowed two more runs on Daniel Murphy's double. One of the few bright spots in the game for the Braves was Daniel Winkler's debut in the eighth inning: he struck out two of the three hitters he faced.
The Mets' magic number is now seven.
