The Atlanta Braves secured their 63rd win of the season last night, meaning that the franchise will not suffer its first 100-loss season since 1988. The 2-1 series-opening win over the Washington Nationals came thanks to a pair of solo homers from A.J. Pierzynski.
The Braves need a single win over the next two nights to pick up their third series win in the last four, and will send rookie Williams Perez to the mound opposite Jordan Zimmermann. After mightily struggling in the season's middle months, Perez has seemingly turned the corner, going 2-0 in his last four starts and has not allowed more than three runs in any of them.
Third baseman Hector Olivera is back in the lineup after leaving last night's game. He was hit by a pitch on his left elbow, but the ball struck the elbow guard he was wearing, and is apparently fine.
