The Atlanta Braves have been the worst team in baseball for some time, and things are basically off the rails. Fredi Gonzalez's club has lost 12 consecutive games, and as the team travels to Philadelphia for three games with the Phillies, Atlanta has dropped 26 of their last 28 (!) games away from Turner Field.
For some, this week's set against Philly represents a "battle" for the number one overall pick in the upcoming MLB Draft. The Phillies have a one-game "lead" over the Braves in this regard, but Atlanta certainly appears to be set on catching their rivals for futility with the way the team has been playing recently.
With all of that talk aside, there is baseball to play this week, and the Braves have some interesting decisions to make. Matt Wisler appeared out of the bullpen yet again on Tuesday, leaving some to speculate that he could be replaced in the rotation on Tuesday. No official word is available to this point, but that is something to monitor prior to first pitch in game two.
Philadelphia will trot out the trio of Aaron Harang, Aaron Nola and Adam Morgan for the series, and only the youngster (Nola) poses a real threat on paper. This Braves offense has been prone to disaster against virtually any pitcher, however, leaving the door open for just about anything. Julio Teheran will take the ball in the series finale for Atlanta, but prior to that, we will see Williams Perez (sigh) and either Wisler or a potential bullpen game on Tuesday.
Feel the excitement.
We will be here throughout the week for all the coverage you could ever desire, so stay tuned. We can do this together.
