Braves Farm System Ranked 3rd by Baseball America

You can't be first in everything. After being ranked the top farm system by Keith Law just yesterday, the Braves system came up just short of claiming the title on Baseball America's list.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Just yesterday, we covered that Keith Law named the Braves farm system the best in baseball where he highlighted the depth of the system as well as the talent-level of the prospects that the Braves have brought in via trades and the draft which has led to a remarkable turnaround in the farm system over the last year and a half. However, as it turns out, not everyone thinks that the Braves have a stranglehold on the top spot amongst farm systems in baseball.

That being said, Baseball America still thinks very highly of the Braves rebuilding efforts and placed the organization 3rd behind the Dodgers and Astros. The Dodgers are a very defensible choice for the top spot with there high end talent at the top as well as depth in several positions as well. The Astros are an interesting choice for the 2 spot, but given where the Astros have been drafting for the last few years and the fact that they aggressively rebuilt their system recently means that the possible slight can easily be forgiven. The Rockies are a team that is generally seen as a top 3 farm system as well, yet they were 6th on BA's list.

One of the things that was most interesting in the article were the breakdown's of where the farm system's had been ranked previously. Starting in 2011, the Braves' systems were ranked 2nd, 15th, 21st, 26th, and 29th before jumping to 3rd this year. BA would highlight the sheer number of moves the Braves have made to restock its farm system and mentions its stable of young arms that they have assembled.

While for some it may be disappointing that the Braves are not a consensus #1 farm system, third is nothing to scoff at and with the Braves poised to spend big in the international free agent market in July, several high picks in the 2016 draft, and many of the games top prospects graduating to the majors soon...the Braves may get there soon enough.
