Mike Foltynewicz to start Monday, replacing Bud Norris

Bud Norris, to put it mildly, has not been good. Rather than delay making the move, the Braves are pulling the trigger and bringing up a familiar face.

When the Braves signed Bud Norris, it was a fairly well-regarded move. Norris had a history of being a useful player, he didn't cost a lot, and was the kind of player that could feasibly perform well and then get traded at the deadline to a contender with a need in the rotation.

Well, to say that that is not how it has turned out for Norris thus far is a pretty gross understatement. His 5 starts in Atlanta have yielded an 8.74 ERA, 6.45 FIP, and memories of the drubbing the Red Sox put on him will haunt Braves' fans for the forseeable future.

It was a known fact that Norris' days in the rotation were numbered after Fredi Gonzalez and members of the coaching staff met with Norris to go over that unfortunate start as well his performance in general. The Braves were expected to make a move over the weekend, although the postponement of the Saturday game gave the Braves the option of simply skipping Norris' turn in the rotation and buying more time to make a decision.

However, it looks like the Braves have made peace with their decision and announced the starter for Monday's game

Mike Foltynewicz will make his 2016 debut on Monday against the Mets. Folty showed glimpses of his potential last season but was largely inconsistent at best with problems with his command as well as keeping the ball in the ballpark. He was then sidelined with an illness before have (pretty scary) surgery to remove a rib due to a blood clot.

Thus far, as he has recovered down in Gwinnett, Folty has started 4 games in AAA with a 2.05 ERA while walking 14 and striking out 20 in 22 innings pitched. In 2015, Mike had a 5.71 ERA in 18 appearances (15 starts) with a 5.05 FIP with 77 Ks and 29 walks in 86.2 innings.
