Julio Teheran shuts out New York Mets as Atlanta Braves pull off sweep

Julio Teheran was absolutely magnificent on Sunday afternoon.

The Braves ace was exactly that, hurling a complete game one-hitter, as the Braves defeated the Mets, 6-0, to notch the series sweep and the team's fifth straight win.

Michael Conforto was the only Met to reach base all game, and did so on a single to lead off the third inning. Other than that, nothing. Absolutely nothing. He retired the final 21 hitters he faced.

Teheran has been a victim of a lack of run support all year, as evidence by his sub-3.00 ERA and 2-7 record coming in, but the offense finally came through for him.

In the battle of aces, Jacob deGrom was not nearly as impressive, surrendering three runs in six innings of work.

The Braves manufactured a run in the third after Erick Aybar led off the frame with a hit by pitch and Ender Inciarte drove him in with a two-out hit. The rally didn't stop there, as Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis had back-to-back hits to make the score 2-0.

Markakis led off the sixth with a home run to right-center, as deGrom just spun one up there letter-high, and the bearded man crushed it.

The game began to get away from the Mets in the seventh inning, as Atlanta added a pair of runs off Antonio Bastardo. Of note in the inning, Mallex Smith was hit in the left hand. After being check on by trainers he stayed in the game to run the bases, but exited the game after that.

Teheran had such a good game that he added a hit in the eighth inning, where the Braves got their last run on a wild pitch.

Freeman is on fire, as he went 4-for-5, and now has at least three hits in four of the last five games.

Also of note is the Father's Day uniforms the teams sported during the game, with the blue colors signaling prostate cancer awareness. Atlanta's looked great. Makes you wonder if we'll see them again in the future.

The Braves get the day off Monday before a quick two-game set with the Miami Marlins, that begins Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
