Braves vs. Mets Final Score: Norris throws seven scoreless innings, Atlanta beats New York, 5-2

Bud Norris continued his solid work on Sunday as the Braves took the final game of the series against the Mets by the score of 5-2.

The win gave the Braves a split of the series and five wins in their last seven games against the Mets. They started the year going 1-5 against them in their first two series.

Norris was, once again, very good on the mound for Atlanta. As teams have expressed their interest in the right-hander, Norris has done nothing but raise his stock as he has found a great midseason form for the Braves. He finished his outing with seven scoreless innings, allowing no walks and four hits with a season-high eight strikeouts. Norris' ERA has sank all the way to 4.22 after his disastrous April for the club.

Holding a 1-0 lead headed to the eighth inning, the Braves' lineup unloaded for some much-needed insurance runs for the pitching staff. Ender Inciarte got things going with an infield single to lead off. He then advanced to second on a balk and stole third on a beautiful jump while Freddie Freeman walked. Nick Markakis drove him home with a single to left to give the Braves a 2-0 lead and runners on first and second with nobody out. Adonis Garcia followed with the big blow of the game -- a rocket into the left center field seats for a 3-run HR to put Atlanta up 5-0.

Alexi Ogando struggled in the ninth inning for Atlanta, allowing three hits and two runs while recording only two outs. With a runner on base and leading by three runs, Arodys Vizcaino came in relief for a save opportunity, and he struck out Brandon Nimmo for the one-out save.

Norris got off to a wildly impressive start, striking out the side in the top of the first inning while throwing just three balls. His 95-mph fastball that fanned Yoenis Cespedes was a sign of good things to come with a lively fastball in Norris' arsenal for the game.

The Braves managed to outdo their offensive performance on Saturday night in the first inning against Colon. With two outs, Freeman unleashed on a first-pitch fastball and sent it flying over the center field wall for his 13th home run of the year. Colon appeared to be very hittable in the first inning, as Markakis lined a double to follow Freeman and Garcia was retired to end the inning on a hard line drive of his own.

Unfortunately for Atlanta, the sharp contact failed to continue for the rest of the game. Colon quickly settled down and, once again, managed a stellar performance against the Braves. From the fourth through the seventh inning, Colon forced eight ground ball outs -- two in each inning.

Breezing through the first four innings with only one hit allowed, Norris found himself in his first jam in the fifth inning. James Loney and Wilmer Flores led off with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second with no outs. Nimmo followed with a ground out that retired Flores at second and put runners on the corners. Norris proceeded to strike out Rene Rivera and Colon to to escape the inning without any damage done.

Freeman went 3-3 in the game and reached base all four plate appearances. His average has sailed to .282 and his OPS is up to .861 as he continues his impressive month of June. Jace Peterson had two more hits in the game. His average is up to a season-high .263, and he's hitting .327 in June.

The Cleveland Indians will head into town on Monday for a three-game series. John Gant is expected to get the start.
