Thursday marks one month since Mike Foltynewicz took the mound for the Atlanta Braves and, on cue, the right-hander is back.
The Braves send Foltynewicz to the mound against the Miami Marlins in the opener of a four-game weekend series, and it will be nice to see the 24-year-old take part in a Major League game once again. Foltynewicz was coming on strong prior to an elbow issue that forced him to the disabled list, posting back-to-back starts in which he allowed only one earned run against the Brewers and Giants.
On Thursday, Foltynewicz will bring the pressure of a losing skid as well, with the Braves falling victim to a sweep against the Cleveland Indians earlier in the week. In the series opener against Miami, the Marlins will deploy veteran left-hander Wei-Yin Chen, and that certainly isn't a "break" for the home team. Chen has struggled this season, posting a 5.00 ERA in 86.1 innings, but he has performed well above that level in the recent past, and Atlanta's struggles against quality left-handers have been well documented in 2016.
The Braves need a win to stop the bleeding and Mike Foltynewicz brings a great deal of hope to the table on Thursday. Stay with us throughout the evening for all the latest.
