Kevin Maitan has been a name that has been teasing and haunting Braves’ fans for well over a year. The switch-hitting infield prospect (reports vary whether he can stick at shortstop or he is destined for third base) has tantalizing potential at the plate. He has the potential to hit for average and power from both sides of the plate and while he is still very young, you will be hard pressed to find a scout that doesn’t think he is special.
And he is an Atlanta Brave.

We’ve covered Maitan quite a bit of late, so I will direct you to the IFA preview from earlier this morning which has links to more detailed info on who Maitan is and the sage that has led him to being a Brave.
Its worth noting that there have been multiple reported figures in terms of his signing bonus, ranging anywhere from $4.1-$4.7 million. Regardless, his bonus is a record amount for a prospect from Venezuela..which is fitting for a prospect that some scouts have given the “once-in-a-generation” label.
