Padres request release waivers on Hector Olivera
The San Diego Padres have waived Hector Olivera. The move will become official in 48 hours provided no team claims him. He had been designated for assignment back on August 2 when he was eligible to return from his 80-game suspension.
Astros designate Carlos Gomez for assignment
The Houston Astros designated outfielder Carlos Gomez for assignment on Thursday. They have 10 days to either trade him, release him or send him to the minors. The Astros acquired Gonzalez in a trade deadline line deal last year but he has had the worst season of his career. He will be a free agent at season’s end.
