Braves place Eric O’Flaherty on DL due to elbow injury

A rough season for Eric O’Flaherty continued to get rougher as the veteran reliever has been placed on the 15-day Disabled List

Julio Teheran is making his return from the Disabled List tonight, and in order for him to be placed on the active roster, a move needed to be made in order to make room for the 2016 All-Star. As it turns out, Eric O’Flaherty has an elbow ailment that has resulted in the Braves placing him on the 15-day DL.

O’Flaherty hasn’t had the best of seasons in his return to Atlanta. He’s made a number of shaky appearances this year, with his relief appearance on this past Wednesday against the Twins being the capper. He faced eight batters, gave up three hits, walked two, and conceded three runs in what was eventually a blowout victory for the Twins.

His elbow ailment could probably explain the bad performance earlier this week, but Eric O’Flaherty also has a 6.91 ERA and a 4.34 FIP this season, so there’s that. Additionally, this is his second trip to the DL this season after missing a month of action due to a knee injury. It’s been tough sledding for O’Flaherty this season and now he’ll be spending more time on the shelf due to injury.

Considering how close we are to the end of the season and how things have gone for the 31-year-old reliever, it’s reasonable to think that the Braves could probably just shut him down for the rest of the campaign. We’ll have to see what happens, though.

Looks like surgery could be an option for O’Flaherty
