With outfielder Matt Kemp set to make his debut on Tuesday night at Turner Field, the Atlanta Braves had a roster decision to make in order to clear the necessary space. However, the Braves were forced to make a less than optimal move, as the team’s best starting pitcher, Julio Teheran, will be heading to the 15-day disabled list as a result of a right lat strain.

Teheran left a start early on July 22 as a result of lat tightness, and his return to the mound was cut rather short (five innings, 86 pitches) on July 30. In addition, the Braves have every reason to be incredibly careful with their best arm, as the 25-year-old Teheran stands alongside Freddie Freeman on a list of Atlanta’s top Major League assets.

There will be rotation questions to be answered in the coming days, but for now, Julio Teheran is on the disabled list and Matt Kemp is active and ready to play. Stay tuned.
