The Braves have been reluctant to call up players as part of September roster expansion due to the playoff success of Gwinnett and Mississippi. However, players like Mallex Smith and Rio Ruiz will be joining the Braves as soon as the minor league playoffs are over according to manager Brian Snitker.
Snit said Mallex Smith, Rio Ruiz and maybe a few others will come up once the Minor League playoffs end.

Gwinnett has had to deal with a couple of subtractions over the last week. Atlanta called up infielder Daniel Castro to help fill in while Chase d'Arnaud has been slowed with a foot problem. The team also called up catcher Blake Lalli to replace A.J. Pierzynski over the weekend.
Smith has been out since June 19 with a broken thumb. He a couple of weeks ago for a rehab assignment with Mississippi and has been a key part of their playoff run.
Ruiz hit .271 with 10 homers and 62 RBI in 133 games at Gwinnett this season. Coming up in September will give him the opportunity to get his feet wet at the major league level.
