Due to tragic circumstances (Rest In Peace, Jose Fernandez), the Atlanta Braves haven’t played baseball since Saturday night but that changes on Tuesday. The team will begin the final National League series of the 2016 season against the Philadelphia Phillies and, on this occasion, Atlanta’s best pitcher is on the mound.
Julio Teheran was lights-out in his most recent outing, allowing only one earned run across seven innings of work against the New York Mets. That strong performance buoyed Teheran’s season-long ERA to a very solid 3.10 over 28 starts and 177 innings, and the young right-hander will put that mark on the line against the sometimes frisky Phillies.
In opposition, Philadelphia will send 26-year-old Jerad Eickhoff to the hill and he has pitched quite well in his first full season of MLB duty. The right-hander has blown through 187.1 innings with a 3.75 ERA, and while his peripherals (4.29 FIP, 4.26 xFIP) indicate that may not be a true level of performance, Eickhoff is a talented pitcher.
The 2016 campaign is certainly winding down, but after what was certainly an unfortunate and generally brutal day on Sunday and an off day on Monday, having baseball back isn’t the worst thing. Join us throughout the evening for all the latest.
