Leave it to John Coppolella to find an opportunity for a trade regardless of the player or the time of the year.
With the Braves making both pre-trade deadling and post-deadline deals this season, one would have thought that the Braves were going to be relatively quiet at least until free agency or at least after the World Series. However, the Braves made a deal earlier today.
The Braves traded Gordon Beckham to the Giants for cash. @hankschulman was the first to report a deal was close.

For the Braves, this is sort of a no-brainer. With Dansby Swanson and Jace Peterson expected to make the majority of starts for the remaining games in the season plus spot starts if needed from Daniel Castro and possibly Chase d’Arnaud, Beckham and his .158 batting average in the second half were not going to see much playing time.
As for the Giants, the move is a little more confusing but Beckham is a vet and its possible that corresponding roster moves may shed some light as to why the Giants felt compelled to snatch up Beckham.
