Braves vs Nationals preview: Atlanta looks for 7th straight in Washington

The Atlanta Braves look to extend their winning streak to a season-best seven straight when they open a three-game series against the Washington Nationals.

The Atlanta Braves head to the Nation’s capital for a Labor Day matchup against the Washington Nationals. The Braves have won a season-best six-straight games but will have their work cut out for them against Max Scherzer and the first place Nationals.

Ryan Weber will come out of the Braves’ bullpen to make Monday’s start in place of Matt Wisler. Weber has made 12 relief appearances for Atlanta this season and is 1-0 with a 5.24 ERA. He did make five starts with Gwinnett earlier this season but has pitched in relief exclusively of late so stamina could be an issue.

The Nationals will counter with righty Max Scherzer who is 15-7 with a 2.89 ERA in 28 starts this season. Scherzer is 5-1 over his last seven starts and has held opponents to a .188 batting average this season. Scherzer is 2-0 in three starts against Atlanta this season but with a 4.66 ERA which is his worst mark against any team this season.
