Braves insist Tim Tebow interest about his ability, not selling tickets

The Atlanta Braves are one of the teams with reported interest in former Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow and they insist it has to do with his promise on the field and not his ability to sell tickets.

John Coppolella confirmed to ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick that the team had spoken to Tebow’s representatives multiple times.

"We are interested in Tim because of his potential as a baseball player, not as a gate attraction,'' Coppolella said during the Braves' series with the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. "We have spoken with his representatives multiple times and all parties involved want this to be a pure baseball thing on every level."

Crasnick also reports that Tebow’s representatives are looking to sign a contract soon so that Tebow could attend instructional league and also possibly play in the Arizona Fall League. He also hasn’t ruled out playing winter ball.

Whether it is the goal or not, signing Tebow would raise interest in whatever minor league team he happened to be assigned to. It isn’t also isn’t surprising to see the Braves deny any financial motivations for pursuing Tebow.
