The Braves will look to start a new winning streak Tuesday evening, after having a six-game run snapped by the Nationals on Monday.
That stretch tied Atlanta’s previous longest stretch without a loss, and the Braves will send Williams Perez to the mound to try to continue this solid stretch of baseball. Perez is making his first start since June 6 after being activated from the disabled list last week.
Perez was not overly impressive in his nine starts early in the season, accumulating a 2-2 record and 4.62 ERA. He gave up 6 runs in 4 1⁄3 innings in his last start against San Diego.
Atlanta needs just a single win over the final two games of the road stand to guarantee a winning mark on the trip, after sweeping the Phillies.
Freddie Freeman was named the National League Player of the Week on Tuesday, after a week where he slashed .400/.600/.850 (8-for-20), with 3 doubles, 2 homers, 7 RBIs, 7 runs, and 10 walks.
Daniel Murphy is 3-for-6 against Perez, with all three hits going for extra bases (2 doubles and a homer). Bryce Harper has homered against him. Clint Robinson joins Murphy as the only other National with multiple hits off Perez (2-for-3).
Braves hitters have a bevy of experience facing Gio Gonzalez, who is 4-8 with a 4.24 ERA in 15 starts against Atlanta. Freddie Freeman has hit .390 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs. Nick Markakis is 7-for-30 lifetime with 5 RBIs. Matt Kemp has driven in four runs against the lefty. Anthony Recker (1-for-10) and Gordon Beckham (3-for-10) also have registered double-digit at-bats against Gonzalez.
