Sean Newcomb ranked No. 81 on Keith Law’s top 100 prospect list

Sean Newcomb has taken a bit of a fall in KLaw’s prospect rankings

It is top 100 prospect list time!

Keith Law is starting us of this fine season rolling out his top 100 prospects in five installments. Unsurprisingly, there is a Brave in the first installment although it is a bit surprising as to which player it is.

Newcomb’s write-up is behind the ESPN paywall, but you should definitely be signed up for Insider if for no other reason than to read Keith’s stuff which is excellent. This is also your friendly warning to not post content from behind the paywall (no screenshots, etc) or we will delete it and you will get a timeout from commenting.

KLaw certainly seems to be much lower on Newcomb than he has been in the past, noting that Newcomb’s command and control are very real hurdles for him to climb over if he is going to achieve his ceiling as a front line guy. One problem that Keith notes is that there is nothing obvious in his mechanics that needs fixing, which is both good in the sense that he doesn’t have to adjust something but also bad because that means there isn’t an easy solution to Newcomb’s issues.

The rest of KLaw’s top 100 will roll out throughout the week and it should be interesting to say the least. Keith gave the Braves his honor for best farm system, said that there were guys not in the top 10 who push for top 100 consideration, and Newcomb was the only Brave in this bracket. This could mean we could see a lot of Braves as we move up the rankings.
