A rough night on the mound for Lucas Sims and in general for the Atlanta Braves who dropped their sixth straight game in a 10-2 loss to the Marlins. Max Fried will make his fourth start of the season on Sunday to close things out for Atlanta.
A mechanical adjustment helped Ozzie Albies recover from a slow start to his major league career and has him on a torrid pace to end the season. Albies hit .179 through the first 16 games of his career but is now sitting at .288 entering Sunday’s season finale after minimizing his leg kick particularly from the left side.
Luiz Gohara was impressive during his abbreviated stint in the majors and Braves manager Brian Snitker doesn’t see any reason why he can’t be part of the rotation to start next season.
"There's no reason he can't be part of the rotation next year," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "He's a legit guy. He's a potential top-of-the-rotation type of guy."
There will be no drama on the final day of the regular season after the MLB PLayoff picture was nailed down on Saturday. The Rockies clinched the final wild card spot in the National League thanks to Milwaukee’s loss in St. Louis. The Boston Red Sox nailed down the AL East with a 6-3 win over the Astros at Fenway. The Twins will travel to New York to face the Yankees in the American League wild card game on Tuesday while the Rockies will be in Arizona to face the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
The Mets haven’t officially parted ways with manager Terry Collins yet but reports indicate that they are already reaching out to possible replacements. The New York Post’s Mike Puma reports that former Phillies manager Robin Ventura and current hitting coach Kevin Long are the early favorites.
