Braves' Jackson delivers in AFL victory

The Braves sent a high-profile crop of talent to the Arizona Fall League this year, and so far they have been very impressive. The game played by Peoria on Wednesday was no different as catcher Alex Jackson, the Braves’ 16th-overall prospect, went 4-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, and two RBI. Jackson made significant improvements at the plate this season while playing in the Atlanta system, and is continuing to stand out among some of the best prospects in baseball in the AFL. Check back later, when Garrett Spain gives the weekly update on how all Braves prospects performed this week in Arizona.

In addition to the increase in his power numbers, Jackson, who spent time with Class A Advanced Florida and Double-A Mississippi this season, set a career high with 65 RBIs and posted his best slash line (.267/.328/.480) since playing 23 games in the Rookie-level Arizona League after the Mariners selected him 14th overall in 2014.

Atlanta Braves player review: Jim Johnson

In continuing the Talking Chop Season Review, our own Kris Willis and Ivan the Great bring you player reviews for Luke Jackson and Jim Johnson. These two served in the Atlanta bullpen in 2017, adding to a much-maligned group that came under a great deal of scrutiny this season. Check out their breakdowns and look forward to what we can only hope will be better performances next year.

How ex-Braves are faring in the postseason

Mike Luck of the AJC takes a look at how some former Braves are faring this postseason. None of them are contributing a whole lot thus far, but it is interesting to see this many many players who not only played in the Braves organization, but were drafted by Atlanta, still alive in the playoffs.

Masa-zero! Yanks blank Astros, lead ALCS 3-2

First of all, the Yankees puns on are just awful. Second, we may be seeing them for a few more weeks if recent developments are any indication. The Yankees took a 3-2 lead in the ALCS on Wednesday, beating the Astros for a third straight time to overtake the team with the best regular season record in the American League. Masahiro Tanaka was excellent in Game 5, and now has New York on the brink of a World Series appearance for the first time since 2009.

Cubs dig deep, avoid sweep, face Kershaw tonight

While one team has battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the AL, the Cubs are attempting to battle back from a 3-0 deficit in the NL. Chicago battled to win a tough Game 4 at Wrigley, beating the Dodgers 3-2 to keep their hopes alive. Javier Baez homered twice and Wade Davis pitched two innings of relief as the Cubs held on, but Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw looms as the teams will play again on Thursday.
